02/09/2015 Youth Commission Regular Meeting Adopted 03/09/2015CITY OF GILROY MINUTES OF THE REGULAR YOUTH COMMISION MEETING 7:00 P.M. Monday, February 9, 2015 CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m. by Chair P. Sabharwal. INTRODUCTIONS Adviser Bielecki introduced City of Gilroy Senior Planner Stan Ketchum to the Commission. ROLL CALL & SECRETARY’S REPORT Members Present: Baxter, Carpenter, Filice, Garnica, Lombardo, Olivares, A. Sabharwal, P. Sabharwal, Straub. Members Absent: Spath, Yafai. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Commissioner Baxter motioned to approve the minutes of January 12, 2015 and Commissioner Olivares seconded the motion. The motion carried (9-2-0). APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA Commissioner Sabharwal motioned to approve the agenda for February 9, 2015, and Commissioner Olivares seconded the motion. The motion carried (9-2-0). COMMITTEE REPORTS None. YOUTH COMMISSION INVOLVEMENT Chair P. Sabharwal requested all Commissioners to share what they have done for the Youth Commission in the past month, what they plan on doing during the next month and what they need from the Commission in order to prosper. PUBLIC COMMENT None. OLD BUSINESS A. Discussion Re: Youth Leadership Event Chair P. Sabharwal discussed dropping the beach trip and substituting a field day. She also encouraged the Commissioners to continue keeping everyone updated. B. Discussion Re: Run or Dye Event Commissioner Baxter decided to table this event due to the Commission’s busy schedule. C. Discussion of GYC Shirts, Sweatshirts and other Promotional Items Advisor Bielecki and Commissioner Carpenter will take the lead on ordering shirts and sweatshirts. It will be up to each Commissioner to decide if they would like one. D. Senior Ball – Saturday April 18, 2015 The majority of details have been finalized for this event. All that is left to plan for are the donations that will be given at the raffle that night. It was suggested that each Commissioner bring in a gift basket for the raffle. E. Youth Commission All High School Mixer The location for this event will be the Christmas Hill Park Amphitheatre on Saturday, June 14, 2015 for students in 9th – 12th grade. Entrance fee will be $5 (with student ID). There will be a DJ and possibly 3 live performances. NEW BUSINESS A. Gilroy General Action Committee Update City of Gilroy Senior Planner Stan Ketchum provided an update on the City's 15 year plan and encouraged the group to advertise for the next meeting. B. Pampered Princess Party – Saturday March 14, 2015 Commissioners are encouraged to support this event. Commissioner Carpenter asked for the loan of any hair supplies in order to have more stations for the young ladies. C. Mixer with Gilroy Foundation Youth Board Carol Peters, Adviser of the Gilroy Foundation Youth Board, invited the City of Gilroy Youth Commission to engage in a networking opportunity on a Friday Night. D. San Francisco Giants Trophy Tour – Thursday, February 19, 2015 The Youth Commission will be selling concessions at the Trophy Tour. All Commissioners are encouraged to attend. AGENDA ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING None. STAFF COMMENTS None. ADJOURNMENT Chair P.
