YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 7:04 p.m. by Chair P. Sabharwal.
INTRODUCTIONS

ROLL CALL & SECRETARY’S REPORT
Members Present: Commissioners Baxter, Carpenter, Filice, Garnica, Lombardo, Olivares, A.
Sabharwal, P. Sabharwal, Straub and Yafai
Members Absent: Commissioner Spath
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
Commissioner Baxter motioned to approve the minutes of March 9 , 2015 and
Commissioner Straub seconded the motion.
The motion carried (10-0-1 Commissioner Spath was absent).
APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA
Commissioner Baxter motioned t o approve the agenda for April 13 , 2015, and
Commissioner Garnica seconded the motion.
The motion carried (10-0-1 Commissioner Spath was absent).

PUBLIC COMMENT
None.
OLD BUSINESS
A.Discussion Re: Youth Leadership Event
Commissioner s P. Sabharwal and Baxter discussed publicity for this event. Chair P.
Sabharwal will send out an e-mail to the C ommission to finalize speakers and confirm
dates.
B.Discussion of GYC Shirts, Sweatshirts and other Promotional Items
Commissioner Baxter showed the group some desi gns that she came up with. The
C ommission gave her some feedback on the logo and it was agreed that Commissioner
Baxter would create some other designs to have more options.
C.Senior Ball – Saturday April 18, 2015
The dance is set for Saturday, April 18, 2015. Commissioners should be at the Senior
Center on Friday at 3:00 p.m. to put up the main decorations. On Saturday, the group
should arrive at 10:00 a.m. to set up any last minute decorations and then return for the
event at 4:00 p.m. The Commissioners should bring their raffle items any time before the
dance. Commissioner Filice confirmed the attendance of his volunteers.
D. Youth Commission All High School Mixer
Commissioner Carpenter expressed concern over attendance at this event and asked if
members of the group would help with promotion. Chair P. Sabharwal and Commissioner
Garnica volunteered to help publicize the event in the hopes of a good outcome.
NEW BUSINESS
None.
COMMISSION COMMENTS
Commissioner Filice advised the group to join basecamp.com. The idea of joining this website is
to provide a way for the group to stay in contact and have everyone accountable for their tasks.
Chair P. Sabharwal suggested incorporating a point system into the basecamp website. This
would help hold everyone accountable and keep them working efficiently.

AGENDA ITEMS FOR NEXT MEETING
Ideas for an end of season group trip.
ADJOURNMENT
Chair P. Sabharwal adjourned the meeting at 7:30 p.m.
FUTURE MEETING
The next regular meeting of the Youth Commission will be held on Monday, May, 11, 2015 at
7:00 p.m. in the Gilroy Senior Center Meeting Room.
