YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 7:08 p.m. by Chair Filice .
INTRODUCTIONS

ROLL CALL & SECRETARY’S REPORT
Members Present: Carpenter, Drews, Fajardo, Filice, Garnica, Plaza, A. Sabharwal, P.
Sabharwal, Yafai
Members Absent: Lombardo, O’Connor
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
Commissioner Carpenter motioned to approve the minutes of December 14, 2015 and
Commissioner Fajardo seconded the motion.
The motion carried (9-0-2, Commissioners Lombardo and O’Connor were absent).
APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA
Commissioner Drews motioned to approve the agenda for January 11, 2016, and
Commissioner Fajardo seconded the motion.
The motion carried (9-0-2, Commissioners Lombardo and O’Connor were absent).

None.
PUBLIC COMMENT
None.
OLD BUSINESS
A. Review of Basecamp Web Based Project Management Tool
Chair Filice provided additional instruction on the use of Basecamp. The whole
Commission was officially added to the group and successfully logged on to the
application.
B. Finalization of Event/Project Calendar
Advisor Bielecki discussed the focus and dedication it requires to take on a project. The
group discussed all proposed events and created a final event calendar.
NEW BUSINESS
A. College Application Workshop Proposal
As Commissioner Lombardo was not present, it was agreed to move this item to the
February meeting.
B. Las Animas Park Improvement Proposal
Commissioner Garnica explained her thought process for this idea and concluded that she
will require more time to strengthen her proposal. She will meet with Advisor Bielecki to
work out the details prior to the next meeting.
C. Superhero Extravaganza Event
Commissioner Garnica presented her proposal and decided to hold the event on April 2,
2016 at the Gilroy Sports Complex. Within a month advertising for the event will begin,
needed resources will start to be gathered and volunteers will start to be recruited.
Commissioner Yafai will be assisting Commissioner Garnica.

Chair Filice adjourned the meeting at 7:55 p.m.

The next regular meeting of the Youth Commission will be held on Monday, February 8, 2016 at
7:00 p.m. in the Gilroy Senior Center Meeting Room.
