YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING
7:00 P.M.
Monday, October 10, 2016
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Mariah Carpenter.
INTRODUCTIONS
Introduction of new Youth Commissioners: Alan Apte, Simrit Athwal Jessie Martinez, Andrew
Plaza, Julissa Lopez and Brenda O’Connor.
Introduction of new Recreation Coordinator: Heather Kyles and Monica Sendejas (not present)
ROLL CALL & SECRETARY’S REPORT
Members Present: Carpenter, Drews, Fajardo, M. Plaza, A. Plaza, Sabharwal, Apte, Athwal,
Martinez, Lopez and O’Connor
Members Absent: None
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
Minutes from Special Meeting on May 16, 2016 not approved as not all returning
Commissioners were present at time of approval.
APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA
Commissioner Carpenter motioned to approve the agenda for October 10, 2016, and all
Commissioners seconded the motion.

OLD BUSINESS
A. None
NEW BUSINESS
A. Time Change of Youth Commission Meetings
Meetings will still be held on the second Monday of the month, but will now be starting
at 6:00 p.m. instead of 7:00 p.m.
B. Annual Retreat
Annual retreat will be held on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at the Gilroy Senior Center,
Meeting Room from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
C. Senior Citizen’s Ball and Other Upcoming Events
Senior Ball to be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the Gilroy Senior Center, Main
Dining Hall. Commissioners voted on a theme and the theme will be “Under the Sea”.
Additional Youth Commission sponsored events discussed: Pampered Princess Party
(Commissioner Carpenter), Basketball Clinic (Commissioner Sabharwal), College
Application Workshop (all) and City Wide Dances at the District (Commissioner
Carpenter).
Commissioners assigned role/job duties for upcoming Senior Ball: Decorations
(Commissioners Drews, Martinez and Fajardo), Photo Booth (Commissioners Fajardo
and Carpenter), Photography (Commissioners Fajardo, Athwal and Lopez, Fundraising
(Commissioners Sabharwal, A. Plaza and Apte), Publicity (Commissioners M. Plaza and
Lopez)
D. Social Media Project Proposal from the City of Gilroy’s Public Information Office
Youth Commissioners agreed to participate in and create Youth Commission Inst agram
account and a Youth Commission Snapchat account as well as a Twitter Fast Follow
account.
