YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING
6:00 P.M.
Monday, April 9, 2018
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:05 p.m. by Chair Sabharwal.
ROLL CALL & SECRETARY'S REPORT
Members Present: A. Apte, K. Apte, Chargin, Fajardo, Pace, Sabharwal, Sanchez Del Real and
Song
Members Excused: Athwal and Kolagotla
Members Absent: None
Staff Present: Monica Sendejas
The agenda for the Youth Commission regular meeting was posted in the public notice cabinet at
City Hall on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 8:25 a.m. The agenda and April Meeting Packet were
distributed to Commissioners on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 8:22am and were posted to the
City website on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at 8:26 a.m.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
Motion was made by Vice Chair A. Apte to approve the minutes of the March 12, 2018
regular meeting as written. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Song. The motion
carried unanimously with an 8-0-0 vote.
APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA
Motion was made by Commissioner Fajardo to approve the agenda for April 9, 2018. The
motion was seconded by Commissioner Apte. The motion carried unanimously with an
8-0-0 vote.
PUBLIC COMMENT
None.
OLD BUSINESS
A. Pampered Princess Party on April 14, 2018 — Final planning for the Pampered Princess
Party was discussed. Volunteers have been recruited. Commissioner Fajardo will bring the
music. Commissioner Chargin confirmed the photographer will be here and asked for
agreement in ordering props for the photo booth. Chair Sabharwal reported Costco donated
gift cards for the event, which will be used to purchase fruit snacks and water for the event.
Chair Sabharwal will distribute the promotional materials he has for the event this week.
B. Website Design Project Development — Vice Chair A. Apte reported that we will be
delaying the promotion and release of the website until a future date. Vice Chair A. Apte
reported he still needs information from some of the Commissioners to complete some of the
sections and he can't finalize the design until we have paid for a domain name. Vice Chair A.
Apte reported that once we purchase a domain name, a lot more of the design options open
up and he can finalize the website pages. Domain names were discussed. Some suggested
names were Gilroy Youth Hub, Gilroy Youth, Volunteer and Career Opportunities
(GYVCO) or Gilroy Youth Opportunities (GYO). At the next meeting, the Commissioners
would like to 1) vote on the domain name, and 2) discuss and vote on whether the domain
name should be purchased now, or'delay publication until the Fall.
NEW BUSINESS
A. Meeting Calendar for 2018-2019 — Staff Sendejas proposed the meeting calendar for next
year and shared that it was her recommendation that the meetings begin in October. Staff
Sendejas explained that terms end in September and some Commissioners have already gone
away to college and with terms ending, new business and planning really can't begin until
October. The Commission agreed that it would be better to run meetings from October
through May. The December meeting date needs to be changed to December 10. The
Commission would like to see this calendar distributed to all applicants so applicants can see
if they can commit to all the meeting dates. The Commission will vote on this item at the
next meeting.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
A. GPAC — Vice Chair A. Apte reported GPAC meet this month and looked at difference places
for development in Gilroy and how it affects the infrastructure, jobs and housing. Vice Chair
A. Apte reported that no voting items took place at this meeting.

ADJOURNMENT
A motion was made by Commissioner Song to adjourn the meeting. The motion was
seconded by Commissioner K. Apte. The motion carried unanimously with an 8-0-0 vote.
Cbair Sabharwal adjourned the meeting at 6:48 p.m.
FUTURE MEETING
The next regular meeting of the Youth Commission will be held on Monday, 14, 2018 at 6:00
p.m. in the Gilroy Senior Center Meeting Room.
