LIBRARY COMMISSION MEETING

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Chair Hugh Smith at 7:02 p.m.
SECRETARY'S REPORT
The Agenda for this meeting was posted on October 8, 2015 at 2:30 p.m.
Commissioners Present: Patricia Cooper, Carol Smith, Hugh Smith, Joyce Taylor

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion made by Commissioner Cooper to approve the minutes of September 9, 2015.
Motion was seconded by Commissioner Taylor.
Motion passed unanimously (4-0-1, Commissioner Beman was absent).
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Motion made by Commissioner Smith (Carol) to approve the agenda of October 14, 2015.
Motion was seconded by Commissioner Cooper.
Motion passed unanimously (4-0-1, Commissioner Beman was absent).
Children's Supervising Librarian Sharon Kelly introduced herself. She attended the meeting in
Lam's place. Deputy County Librarian Chris Brown, who attended several previous meetings,
re -introduced himself.
PRESENTATIONS
None.
PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
None.
OLD BUSINESS
A. Discussion of Library Commission Work Plan
Although Lani was out of town, Deputy County Librarian Chris Brown announced that
more information on plans for the Bike Fix -it Station should be available by the next
Library Commission meeting. The Grant maker has been busy working with Google on
their campus, and should be available soon.

A monthly report was emailed in advance of the Library Commission meeting. See attached
report.
City Librarian, Land Yoshimura
Lani was not present due to unexpected business. Children's Supervising Librarian Sharon
Kelly attended the meeting on Lani's behalf. She shared several articles about the Gilroy
Library that were written in the Gilroy Dispatch.
COMMISSION COMMENTS
Chair Smith inquired about election of 2016 Library Commission officers. This item will be on
the agenda for the January 2016 meeting. Commissioner Cooper was at the Gilroy Library on
Bike Repair Day (September 19), and stated that it was well -attended.
STAFF COMMENTS
The next regularly scheduled meeting will be on the 3'd Wednesday of November due to
Veteran's Day on November 11. Gilroy Recreation Supervisor Cathy Mirelez requested that
flyers for the Library Mural Unveiling on October 29 be handed out.
FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS
Approval of 2016 Library Commission meeting dates will be on the next agenda. Discussion of
Library Commission Work Plan will remain on the next agenda.
ADJOURNMENT
Chair Hugh Smith adjourned the meeting at 7:18 p.m.
The next regular meeting of the Gilroy Library Commission will be held on Wednesday,
November 18, 2015 (November 11 is Veteran's Day) at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilroy Library Meeting
Room, 350 W. 6th Street, Gilroy, CA.
