LIBRARY COMMISSION MEETING

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Chair Smith at 7:01 p.m.
SECRETARY'S REPORT
The Agenda for this meeting was posted on May 4, 2017 at 2:30 p.m.
Commissioners Present: Rashmi Beman, Michaela Gonzalez, Sumana Reddy, Hugh Smith,
Candice Whitney
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion made by Commissioner Reddy to approve the minutes of March 8, 2017. Motion
was seconded by Commissioner Whitney.
Motion passed unanimously.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Motion made by Commissioner Beman to approve the agenda of May 10, 2017. Motion
was seconded by Commissioner Reddy.
Motion passed unanimously.
None.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
None.
OLD BUSINESS
A. Discussion of Library Commission Work Plan Regarding `Bike Fix -It Station"
The Santa Clara County Public Health Department (PHD), and their Safe Routes to
School Program, has decided to fund a bike fix -it station at the Gilroy Library. PHD is
ordering the bike fix -it station, and City of Gilroy Facilities Superintendent Walter
Dunckel has agreed to install it next to the Sixth Street bike rack.
B. Library Report to Council on June 19, 2017
Commissioner Beman nominated Commissioner Reddy to give the Report.
The nomination was seconded by Commissioner Whitney.
Motion passed unanimously.
Deputy County Librarian, Chris Brown
Deputy County Librarian Chris Brown presented the monthly County Librarian report, which
was emailed to the Commissioners in advance of the meeting. See attached report. Mr. Brown
also shared information on the Library District Market Segmentation Report that was designed
to reach persons not currently benefitting from library service.
City Librarian, Lani Yoshimura
Lani gave her monthly report for March. See attached report.
Commissioner Reddy requested that notification be sent whenever a Commissioner is unable to
attend meetings. There was not a quorum for the April meeting. Commissioner Whitney stated
that she is enjoying her position, and has learned so much.

FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS
Discussion of the Library Commission Work Plan will remain on the agenda.
ADJOURNMENT
Chair Smith adjourned the meeting at 8:27 p.m.
The next regular meeting of the Gilroy Library Commission will be held on Wednesday,
June 14, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilroy Library Meeting Room, 350 W. 6th Street,
Gilroy, CA.
