LIBRARY COMMISSION MEETING
7:00 P.M.

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Chair Reddy at 7:04 p.m.
SECRETARY'S REPORT
The Agenda for this meeting was posted on May 3, 2018 at 1:45 p.m.
Commissioners Present: Rashmi Beman, Michaela Gonzalez. Sumana Reddy, Kathy Souza,
Commissioners Excused: Candice Whitney
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion made by Commissioner Beman to approve the minutes of February 14, 2018.
Motion was seconded by Commissioner Gonzalez.
Motion passed (4-0-1).
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Motion made by Commissioner Souza to approve the agenda of May 9, 2018. Motion was
seconded by Commissioner Beman.
Motion passed (4-0-1).
None.
PRESENTATIONS
None.
PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
None.
OLD BUSINESS
A. Report on Status of Garden Area Improvement
The design of the Garden area has been completed. The Library is waiting for direction
and more information from the City about using leftover Library Bond Measure funds.
More details will be available at a later date.
County Librarian, Nancy Howe
Nancy gave her monthly County Librarian report, which was emailed in advance of the
meeting. See attached report. She also mentioned that 75,000 people in the Library District pay
for Library services and do not currently own a Library card. A marketing program is
underway to inform people that a Library card is available if they would like one. Some of
them may not even be aware of everything the Library has to offer.
City Librarian, Lani Yoshimura
Lani gave her monthly report for the Gilroy Library. See attached report.
COMMISSION COMMENTS
Chair Reddy encouraged the Commissioners to email in advance if they are unable to attend a
meeting, which would help avoid cancellation due to lack of quorum.
STAFF COMMENTS
None.
FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS
Status of the Garden Area Improvement will remain on the Agenda.

Chair Reddy adjourned the meeting at 7:50 p.m.

The next regular meeting of the Gilroy Library Commission will be held on Wednesday,
June 13, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilroy Library Meeting Room, 350 W. 6th Street,
Gilroy, CA.
