08/08/2018 Library Commission Regular Meeting Adopted 09/12/2018CITY OF GILROY MINUTES OF THE REGULAR LIBRARY COMMISSION MEETING 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 8, 2018 CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Chair Reddy at 7:07 p.m. SECRETARY'S REPORT The Agenda for this meeting was posted on August 2, 2018 at 2:20 p.m. Commissioners Present: Rashmi Beman, Sumana Reddy, Kathy Souza, Candice Whitney Commissioners Absent: Michaela Gonzalez APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion made by Commissioner Whitney to approve the minutes of June 13, 2018. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Beman. Motion passed (4-0-1). APPROVAL OF AGENDA Motion made by Commissioner Whitney to approve the agenda of August 8, 2018. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Beman. Motion passed (4-0-1). None. PRESENTATIONS None. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION None. OLD BUSINESS A. Report on Status of Garden Area Improvement Gilroy City Council voted to approve an agreement with the Santa Clara County Library District for $160,000 of the City's Community Library Bonds for the construction of a shade structure at the Gilroy Library. The Library Bond Oversight Committee met prior to the Council Meeting. The Library hopes to begin the project in a couple of months. A. Library Report to City Council on September 10, 2018. Chair Reddy will present the report to City Council after Lani prepares it. County Librarian, Nancy Howe Deputy County Librarian Chris Brown gave the monthly County Librarian report for Nancy Howe, which was emailed in advance of the meeting. See attached report. City Librarian, Lani Yoshimura Lani gave her monthly report for the Gilroy Library. See attached report. She also stated that the Library has received a $48,000 State Library Grant to work with at -risk youth and families on a program called "Rise Up." The program will partner with several organizations including Department of Children & Family Services, The District Attorney's Office, and South County Youth Task Force. It will emphasize training on parenting. More information will follow. COMMISSION COMMENTS Chair Reddy mentioned that she was very unhappy with the Acorn TV program. The information about sign-up, free trial and offerings was vague and confusing. STAFF COMMENTS None. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS None. Chair Reddy adjourned the meeting at 8:05 p.m. FUTURE MEETINGS The next regular meeting of the Gilroy Library Commission will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilroy Library Meeting Room, 350 W. 6th Street, Gilroy, CA.
