LIBRARY COMMISSION MEETING
7:00 P.M.

CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Chair Reddy at 7:00 p.m.
SECRETARY'S REPORT
The Agenda for this meeting was posted on September 5, 2018 at 2:20 p.m.
Commissioners Present: Rashmi Beman, Michaela Gonzalez, Sumana Reddy, Kathy Souza,
Commissioners Excused: Candice Whitney
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion made by Commissioner Beman to approve the minutes of August 8, 2018. Motion
was seconded by Commissioner Gonzalez.
Motion passed.(4-0-1).
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Motion made by Commissioner Beman to approve the agenda of September 12, 2018.
Motion was seconded by Commissioner Souza.
Motion passed (4-0-1).
None.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
None.
OLD BUSINESS
A. Report on Status of Garden Area Improvement
The Library hopes to begin the project soon.
County Librarian, Nancy Howe
Deputy County Librarian Chris Brown gave the monthly County Librarian report for Nancy
Howe, which was emailed in advance of the meeting. See attached report.
City Librarian, Lani Yoshimura
Lani gave her monthly report for the Gilroy Library. See attached report. She distributed a
handout to the Commission regarding Library Goal Setting after her meeting on Monday with
Commissioners Reddy and Souza. See attached report.
She also stated that she received a call from Recreation Director Maria DeLeon about a new
Attendance Policy for Boards, Committees and Commissions members. A member may have a
total of 3 absences per calendar year. The frequency of meetings can also be adjusted when
there is no new business to be discussed.
COMMISSION COMMENTS
Commissioner Souza commended Lani's list of Library Goals, and mentioned that two goals for
the Commission to accomplish stood out to her: (1) Develop simple messages to promote the
Library (elevator speeches), and (2) Working with GUSD to promote the Library.
Commissioner Beman stated a concern about the over -flowing trash can in front of the Library.

Further discussion on Library Commission Goals.
ADJOURNMENT
Chair Reddy adjourned the meeting at 8:00 p.m.

The next regular meeting of the Gilroy Library Commission will be held on Wednesday,
October 10, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilroy Library Meeting Room, 350 W. 6th Street,
Gilroy, CA.
