I. CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Library Commission was called to order by Chair
Candice Whitney at 7:09 p.m.
II. SECRETARY'S REPORT
The packet was posted on the City website on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at
4:35 p.m.
ROLL CALL
Present: Chair Candice Whitney, Vice-Chair Kathy Souza, Commissioner
Sumana Reddy.
Absent: Commissioner Michaela Gonzalez, Commissioner Katherine
Robinson.
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion was made by Commissioner Souza; seconded by Commissioner
Reddy to approve the April 10, 2019 meeting minutes.
Motion carried 3-0-2.
IV. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Motion was made by Commissioner Reddy; seconded by Commissioner
Souza to approve the May 8, 2019 agenda.
Motion carried with a vote of 3-0-2.
V. AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS
None.
VI. INTRODUCTIONS
None.
VII. PUBLIC COMMENT ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA
None.
VIII. OLD BUSINESS

A. Report on Library Improvements
The downstairs lobby is up and running.
The courtyard plans have been completed and are awaiting approval.
A list is being compiled of improvements that are needed; including ceiling
fan reversals, modification of study rooms, lighting and gutter system.
B. Discussion of Library Commission Goals
The Commission wants to reach out to various groups, beginning with
GUSD Principals and the School Board to inform them of Library target
groups.
IX. NEW BUSINESS
A. Library Report to City Council
The Commissioners chose three possible dates in order of preference: (1)
September 16, (2) October 7 or (3) October 21.
B. Library Bond Oversight Committee Seat Appointment
Commissioner Reddy motioned to nominate Chair Whitney as Library
Commission Representative on the Library Bond Oversight Committee.
Motion was seconded by Commissioner Souza. Motion passed 3-0-2.
X. LIBRARY REPORTS
A. Report from Nancy Howe, County Librarian
Financial and Administrative Services Manager Chuck Griffen presented the
report for Nancy Howe.
B. Report from Lani Yoshimura, Gilroy Librarian
Lani gave her monthly report on the Gilroy Library.
XI. COMMISSION COMMENTS
Commissioner Souza stated that the Bicycle Pedestrian Committee has a
Facebook page, and wondered if the Library Commission might be
interested in having a page to promote the library and related activities.
XII. STAFF COMMENTS
None.

XIII. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS
School Board outreach planning discussion will be on future agendas.
XIV. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned by Chair Whitney at 8:16 p.m.

The next regular meeting of the Library Commission will be held on
Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilroy Library Meeting Room,
350 West Sixth Street, Gilroy, CA.
