I. CALL TO ORDER
The Regular meeting of the Library Commission was called to order by
Chair Whitney at 7:05 p.m.
II. SECRETARY'S REPORT
The Agenda and Packet were posted on the City website on February 5,
2020 at 11:58 a.m.
ROLL CALL
Commissioners Present: Michaela Gonzalez, Sumana Reddy, Kathy
Souza, Katherine Robinson, Candice Whitney.
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion was made by Commissioner Reddy; seconded by Commissioner
Souza to approve the November 13, 2019 meeting minutes.
Motion passed 5-0-0.
IV. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Motion was made by Commissioner Robinson; seconded by Commissioner
Souza to approve the February 12, 2020 Agenda.
Motion passed 5-0-0.
V. AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS
None.
VI. INTRODUCTIONS
Lani introduced the new Protective Services Officer (PSO) Luis Nunez.
VII. PUBLIC COMMENT ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA
None.
VIII. OLD BUSINESS
A. Report on Library Improvements
The Library is waiting for the final copy of proposed Library improvement
plans, which will then be submitted to the City for approval. These

improvements will be completed using remaining money from the Library
Bond Measure.
B. Discussion of Library Commission Goals
The Commission suggested distributing baskets of books to Elementary
schools to be used as fundraisers, and also to promote literacy.
Lani will provide more direction after contact is made with GUSD.
IX. NEW BUSINESS
A. Election of 2020 Library Commission Officers
Motion was made by Commissioner Souza to elect Commissioner Robinson
as Chair; seconded by Chair Whitney. Motion was made by Commissioner
Souza to elect Commissioner Gonzalez as Vice-Chair; seconded by Chair
Whitney.
Motion passed 5-0-0.
X. LIBRARY REPORTS
A. County Librarian Report from Library Services Manager
Allison Lew presented the monthly report for County Librarian Nancy Howe,
who is retiring. The report was included in the Agenda Packet.
B. Report on New County Website from Allison Lew
Allison gave a PowerPoint presentation on the newly-designed website,
which was
also included in the Agenda Packet.
C. Report from Lani Yoshimura, Gilroy Librarian
Lani gave her monthly report on the Gilroy Library, which was also included
in the
Agenda Packet.
XI. COMMISSION COMMENTS
Commissioner Reddy questioned Lani again about the possibility of a
Spanish as a second language program.
XII. STAFF COMMENTS
There is no meeting in March.
XIII. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS
Library Improvements and Library Goals will remain on the agenda as Old
Business.
XIV. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 8:28 p.m.
