As a resident, taxpayer of this city I worry about our economic stability. I noted that the December 2023 presentation by
city staff stated that had it not been for the
"Quick recovery post COVID, aided by the Federal America Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding, allowed the reserves to be
replenished and make significant investments in recent years".
Our city would have had a shortage in funds to continue to provide the services needed to operate.
As we begin the year "Covid is still here Health officials urge extra precautions as cases rise, viruses including Covid-19
and the flue are surging across the U.S, with California being among the most hardest hit areas according to CDC data".
We need all manner of revenue. Tearing down a parklet without first creating a program is not in our best interest, what if
this business qualifies to meet the established criteria? Will they then need to be 30K out of pocket and reinvest. At a
time when the Downtown Business Association as well as Carol Marques, Rebecca Armendariz and Fred Tovar have
been working on plans to revitalize our downtown, which for years has had shuttered boarded up buildings. Why would
you hamper any business who has managed to stay afloat. I urge you to put this back on the agenda, create a plan for
parklets and allow businesses to either meet or walk away.
