Dear City Council Member,
There was a "ceasefire" before October 7 2023, if you can call Israel needing to shoot down
daily rocket barrages from Gaza a true ceasefire...
On October 7 2023 Hamas broke that "ceasefire" with Israel and committed the worst
atrocities since WW2 including raping and torturing women, burning alive children and
kidnapping more than 200 people the youngest not even one year old
They forced Israel to start a war it didn’t want but had no choice. Make no mistake: for
Israel the its existence is on the table.
Just a week ago Israel proposed a ceasefire that includes humanitarian aid to Gaza and the
release of all the hostages.
So far Hamas is rejecting it. They don’t care about the civilians of Gaza. They want
somehow to maintain their control so they can start planning the next massacre.
Remember: if you vote for a ceasefire, it is meaningless as Hamas so far is rejecting the
Israeli proposal supported by the USA and even Egypt. And if you read the Hamas Charter
issued in 2017 (https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/hamas-2017-document-full), you will
find in Article 18: "...The establishment of “Israel” is entirely illegal ..." and in Article 20:
"Hamas believes that no part of the land of Palestine shall be compromised or conceded,
irrespective of the causes, the circumstances and the pressures and no matter how long the
occupation lasts. Hamas rejects any alternative to the full and complete liberation of
Palestine, from the river to the sea. "
The situation is very complicated and there is no point for the city of Gilroy to get into the
politics of this conflict. A ceasefire for Hamas is not a path for a two-state solution. It is an
opportunity for Hamas to regroup and rearm for its true mission of destroying Israel.
