He passed out three maps of a potential layout of the space. NEW BUSINESS 9. 9.1.Treasurer's Report for the Youth Commission as of April 1, 2025. Treasurer Lai presented her report of the Commission’s finances. Following OpportuniTEEN Fair, the Commission now has a balance of $294.81 in its account. 9.2.Discussion of End of Year Presentation to City Council Henig reviewed the expectations for the annual presentation to the City Council. The Chair will present this year’s accomplishments—Senior Tech Days, OpportuniTEEN Fair, Breakfast with Santa—while a member (s) of the Legislative Committee will present on their issue they’re advocating for, saving the Loma Prieta flower. Henig will meet with James and one or two members of the Legislative Committee to review the presentation. 10.OLD BUSINESS 10.1.Review FY2025 Youth Commission Work Plan Commissioners reviewed their work plan. They provided feedback on this year’s OpportuniTEEN Fair, which attracted approximately 200 people total with 144 participants and 24 vendors. James mentioned that he heard from his peers that they would have like to seen more vendors offering paid jobs (not just volunteers); the majority of attendees were from GECA (need more outreach to other schools, CHS and GHS); layout of the resource tables worked well. Ortega recommended that the Commission reach out to the library in advance so they could utilize the space for promotion of the event on the day of; thought event should start later in the day. Sandoval Rodriguez suggested taking photos of the raffle winners. Nguyen would like to see more resource tables and confirm vendors further in advance to avoid no-shows. Lai recommended the Commission start even earlier recruiting vendors. For the Legislative Committee, the group completed its report. They will present it to the Council during the annual presentation. They will meet with Henig to create a slideshow presentation. 11.STAFF/COMMISSIONER COMMENTS Henig informed graduating seniors whose terms end in 2026 to provide a written resignation message since they will be attending college out of the area in the fall. Meeting Date:May 12, 2025 From:Adam Henig, Recreation Manager RECOMMENDATION Change the regular meeting date in August from August 11, 2025 to August 25, 2025. BACKGROUND The commission meeting date in August is scheduled for Monday, August 11, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. Staff is recommending it be changed to August 25, so the meeting lands when the school year is underway. ANALYSIS Staff is recommending the date change since the meeting occurs nearly two weeks before the first day of school (August 20) for Gilroy Unified School District students. Potential scheduling conflicts for commissioners include student orientation and being on summer break. The rescheduled meeting will be held at the same time and location, 6:00 p.m. at the Gilroy Senior Center Meeting Room. City of Gilroy Youth Commission STAFF REPORT Agenda Item Title:Reflection of the 2024-2025 term Meeting Date:May 12, 2025 From:Adam Henig, Recreation Manager RECOMMENDATION Based on this year’s progress, make recommendations to improve upon for the 2025-26 term. BACKGROUND This year the Commission accomplished the following: Amended the Commission’s bylaws Provided tech assistance to 30 seniors Provided arts and crafts projects for over 100 youth at Breakfast with Santa Organized the 200-person OpportunitTEEN Fair Submitted to City Council a white paper, “Protection of the Loma Prieta Flower.” Were there other projects the Commission could look into in the future? What are the other needs of the community that the Commission could work on? Are there any suggestions on how to improve (and build upon) this year’s current successes? The Commission should use this time to reflect on this year’s accomplishments and discuss potential projects it can take on in the future. The existing Master Plan, adopted in 2002, needs an update to address the increasing demands of the community, underutilized spaces, and aging facilities. The community is invited to participate in a series of workshops to share your ideas and priorities for a new civic center.
