10.OLD BUSINESS
10.1.Review FY2025 Youth Commission Work Plan
Commissioners reviewed their work plan. They provided feedback on this year’s
OpportuniTEEN Fair, which attracted approximately 200 people total with 144
participants and 24 vendors.
James mentioned that he heard from his peers that they would have like
to seen more vendors offering paid jobs (not just volunteers); the majority
of attendees were from GECA (need more outreach to other schools,
CHS and GHS); layout of the resource tables worked well.
Ortega recommended that the Commission reach out to the library in
advance so they could utilize the space for promotion of the event on the
day of; thought event should start later in the day.
Sandoval Rodriguez suggested taking photos of the raffle winners.
Nguyen would like to see more resource tables and confirm vendors
further in advance to avoid no-shows.
Lai recommended the Commission start even earlier recruiting vendors.
For the Legislative Committee, the group completed its report. They will present
it to the Council during the annual presentation. They will meet with Henig to
create a slideshow presentation.
11.STAFF/COMMISSIONER COMMENTS
Henig informed graduating seniors whose terms end in 2026 to provide a written

STAFF REPORT
Agenda Item Title:Change Youth Commission Meeting Schedule in August
2025.
Meeting Date:May 12, 2025
From:Adam Henig, Recreation Manager
RECOMMENDATION
Change the regular meeting date in August from August 11, 2025 to August 25, 2025.
BACKGROUND
The commission meeting date in August is scheduled for Monday, August 11, 2025, at
6:00 p.m. Staff is recommending it be changed to August 25, so the meeting lands when
the school year is underway.
ANALYSIS
Staff is recommending the date change since the meeting occurs nearly two weeks before
the first day of school (August 20) for Gilroy Unified School District students. Potential
scheduling conflicts for commissioners include student orientation and being on summer
break. The rescheduled meeting will be held at the same time and location, 6:00 p.m. at
the Gilroy Senior Center Meeting Room.

Agenda Item Title:Reflection of the 2024-2025 term
Meeting Date:May 12, 2025
From:Adam Henig, Recreation Manager
RECOMMENDATION
Based on this year’s progress, make recommendations to improve upon for the 2025-26
term.

Provided arts and crafts projects for over 100 youth at Breakfast with Santa
Organized the 200-person OpportunitTEEN Fair

Were there other projects the Commission could look into in the future? What are the
other needs of the community that the Commission could work on? Are there any
suggestions on how to improve (and build upon) this year’s current successes?
The Commission should use this time to reflect on this year’s accomplishments and
discuss potential projects it can take on in the future.
