Last evening (August 22, 2025), Bonnie and I attended a public forum arranged by local
community organizations at Valley Health's clinic facility on Camino Arroyo at 6th Street.
The topic was "Healthcare in Crisis". During this meeting the financial impacts of HR 1, AKA
the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act", on Valley Health's facilities in Gilroy and South Santa Clara
County were outlined. The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors has placed a temporary
5/8¢ sales tax increase on the November 2025 ballot to partially backfill funding cuts imposed
by HR 1.
Several local, elected officials were present at this meeting. However, no representatives from
the City of Gilroy attended. While this absence may have been due to short notice, this issue is
of critical importance to everyone who resides in Gilroy.
Where do Mayor Bozzo and each of the City Council members stand on this issue? Will the
City Council sponsor public information sessions to discuss the issue, impacts and the sales
tax measure?
We will be listening, watching and evaluating your responses to this critical issue.
