Dear Members of the Gilroy City Council,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing on behalf of the growing community of
pickleball players in Gilroy to request the City’s consideration for investing in the construction
of dedicated pickleball courts — ideally six, rather than four, to better meet current and future
demand.
Pickleball has rapidly become one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States, appealing
to residents of all ages for its accessibility, social connection, and health benefits. Here in
Gilroy, the enthusiasm continues to rise as more families, seniors, and youth discover the
game. Unfortunately, the limited number of courts often leads to long wait times and
overcrowded play, discouraging participation and limiting community engagement.
Building six courts instead of four would allow for local tournaments, community events, and
lessons that could attract visitors and foster social and economic growth. The courts would
serve as a valuable recreational investment, promoting public health, reducing screen time,
and strengthening neighborhoods through inclusive, active recreation.
We believe this project aligns well with Gilroy’s commitment to enhancing parks and
improving quality of life for residents. I appreciate your consideration of this proposal and
would be happy to discuss possible locations, funding opportunities, or community
partnerships to make it a reality.
