Dear City Council Members,
I am writing as a concerned resident and an enthusiastic member of our community's growing
pickleball scene. I urge you to approve the proposal to build six lighted pickleball courts and
not reduce the number to four. While four courts is a welcome start, it does not fully address
the booming popularity of the sport in our city, and investing in six courts now is a more
strategic and forward-thinking solution for our community.
Pickleball is now the fastest-growing sport in America for the fourth consecutive year, with
millions of players nationwide. A four-court facility will quickly become overwhelmed, leading
to long wait times and potential frustration among players. Six courts would provide a much
better capacity to meet this surging demand, accommodating more players and allowing for a
wider variety of activities, such as:
-Open play sessions
-Youth and adult leagues
-Lessons for new players
-Local tournaments
Building additional courts now, rather than later, is also the most fiscally responsible
approach. Expanding the facility in the future would incur higher costs and more disruption to
the community. By increasing the court count during the initial construction, the city can
achieve a lower per-court cost and ensure the facility serves our residents for many years to
come.
Beyond the direct recreational benefits, a larger facility offers significant advantages for our
entire community:
-Encourages Health and Wellness: Pickleball is a low-impact, accessible activity for all ages
and skill levels, promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles across our city.
-Fosters Community Engagement: The courts will become a natural gathering spot,
strengthening social connections and providing a welcoming space for residents to meet new
people.
-Boosts Local Economic Activity: A larger, higher-capacity facility can attract regional
tournaments and pickleball enthusiasts, drawing visitors who will spend money at local
restaurants, hotels, and businesses.
-Increases Property Values: Investments in high-quality recreational facilities and community
amenities make our neighborhoods more desirable, contributing to local pride and boosting
property values.
I respectfully request that you consider these points and vote to approve a six-court pickleball
facility. This increased investment is a practical decision that will yield a far greater return for
our community's health, social fabric, and economic vitality.
