The slippery slope I mentioned 3 months ago at the last council meeting to allow more time. I just spent
three days touring another state that borders ours and will be going back to another Western state in two
weeks where we’re looking to move some assets out of California. It is amazing to see how clean their
roads and highways are and how very little homeless you run into, other than in some of the large urban
centers.
In the last month I chased one off the Piazza property, smoking some sort of drug on one of the balcony’s
and another that tried to make camp at 8000 Santa Teresa and had gotten into the women’s restroom,
which caused alot of concern to folks in that building
It’s a daily battle, it shouldn’t be made worse by continuing to condone it.

Nearly three months ago, a majority of the Gilroy City Council members voted to allow an illegal homeless
camp to continue to exist on city property across the creek from Costco for 90 days. On May 12 that camp is
slated to be disbanded according to the city ordinance which does not allow camping near infrastructure.

Now homeless advocates are lobbying the city council for another extension and are trying to get it on
Monday’s (5/4) agenda. It will likely be added by the Mayor Greg Bozzo. If it is, we need to hear from
residents of Gilroy that are not in favor of a quasi-permanent homeless camp in our critical commercial
business district. You need to come to Monday’s meeting and be heard. You need to also send emails to
Gilroy council members.

— emails help, but show up as well to the meeting.
I’m sympathetic to the homeless too and pass out hygiene kits to them with my Order of Malta Catholic
group, which is why we have to get them real solutions like housing, drug treatment and mental health
treatment. This is no way for them to live and this is not something the city should tolerate any
more. Gilroy doesn’t have the infrastructure and should not be taking the lead in the County on the
homeless issue. Don’t let them treat us like crap down here in the south county. Speak up, fight for your
Community and have a backbone.
