Dear Mayor Bozzo and city council members,
I am wriƟng to urge all of you to support the resoluƟon that is in opposiƟon to the development of a Federal detenƟon
facility in our unincorporated area of Gilroy in South Santa Clara County. The resolu Ɵon correctly states the dire effect it
might have on our large agricultural industry and our economy in Gilroy.
Our family has been farming in Gilroy for over 100 years and we now have the fourth and fi Ōh generaƟon of family
farmers conƟnuing in the family business. We raise a variety of row crops on approximately 4000 acres -all in the Gilroy
area. And in fact, one of the properƟes we lease is directly behind the proposed detenƟon facility. We believe it will have
a detrimental and chilling effect on our farming operaƟon’s labor force and make it even more difficult to find the labor
that we need to harvest our crops.
Therefore, I urge all of you to vote yes on this resoluƟon for all of the reasons stated in the resoluƟon. I also thank Mayor
Bozzo for proposing and adding this to the consent calendar.
