Subject: June 1 Agenda Item 7.9 – Support
Dear Mayor Bozzo, Mayor Pro Tempore Hilton, and City Councilmembers Bracco, Cline, Fugazzi, Marques and Ramirez,
I am writing to you to express my strong support for the proposed resolution to oppose the planned ICE facility just outside the City of Gilroy. I
ask you to add to the agenda “No staging zone” policy for your next City Council meeting on June 15 to provide concrete protections for the
community by prohibiting the use of city property for civil immigration enforcement. Simply put, City property should be used for City purposes.
We need strong leadership to push back the Federal overreach now threatening to build 2 ICE facilities in the Bay Area. We have seen people
being detained regardless of actual immigration status and denied access to legal support. We have seen that other communities with strong
leadership have been able to delay or even stop these horrific ICE facilities. We ask you to act strongly now before it is a done deal.
