Subject:EXTERNAL - No ICE detention facility in Gilroy
Hi,
My name is Beverly Politzer. I am writing this note to strongly support the proposed resolution to
oppose the possible ICE detention facility in Gilroy. I also urge you to agendize a “No staging zone” policy
for June 15 to provide concrete protections for the community by prohibiting the use of city property for
civil immigration enforcement.
Our City should oppose this possible detention facility because we must combat this anti-immigrant agenda
that destabilizes our communities and tears families apart. ICE does not cooperate with city officials in terms of
inspection to insure that conditions are humane and liveable. Note the detention center in New Jersey!
Immigrant communities are crucial to Gilroy and the surrounding areas and deserve protection. We value our
immigrant communities and most of them are law-abiding citizens that have contributed a lot to our community
and lives.
Thank you for your consideration. Please fight back. Other communities have stopped building of ICE
facilities...so can we.
