Subject:EXTERNAL - Strongly Oppose the Proposed Federal Detention Center Near Gilroy
Hello Gilroy Community,
I am writing as a concerned constituent to urge you to use all available state and local authority to halt
the construction of the proposed federal detention center near Gilroy.
This project goes against our community's values and threatens our local economy. Constructing a
massive detention facility diverts critical resources away from essential public infrastructure, damages
local agriculture and tourism, and places an undue burden on our regional emergency and healthcare
services.
Furthermore, California should invest in community-led solutions and supportive infrastructure rather
than expanding civil detention networks. While this is a federal initiative, I urge you to aggressively
enforce state environmental regulations, zoning laws, and land-use restrictions to block this facility's
development.
Please stand with the community, public advocates, and local leaders who have already voiced their
strong opposition.
