Subject:EXTERNAL - Las Animas Pickleball Courts-Public Comment
Dear Members of The Gilroy City Council,
I am writing to you today regarding the upcoming reconsideration of the pickleball courts project proposed for
Las Animas Park. I recently learned that the project is being re-evaluated because the initial bids received were
higher than originally anticipated. I strongly urge the City Council to move forward and approve this project,
even with the increased costs.
As a dedicated pickleball player for the past two years, I have experienced firsthand the profound positive
impact this sport has on our community. Pickleball is much more than a recreational activity; it builds strong
social connections, fosters deep friendships, and keeps our residents healthy and active.
Currently, many local players (including myself) frequently travel to use the dedicated facilities in Morgan Hill,
which are significantly superior to our temporary setup at Sunrise Park. By investing in permanent, high-
quality courts at Las Animas Park, Gilroy has an opportunity to retain its residents locally and attract
enthusiasts from neighboring areas. This influx of visitors would provide a welcome economic boost to our
local businesses, many of which face ongoing financial struggles.
Our community stands to gain immense value from this infrastructure. Investing in these dedicated courts will
establish Gilroy as a vibrant hub for the sport and enhance the quality of life for all residents.
Thank you for your time, consideration, and continued dedication to our community.
Sincerely,
Hayley Dowsing-Connolly
