I'm Morgen, a resident of Gilroy for the last 20 years... I wanted to thank you for taking the first step and unanimously approving the resolution that opposes the proposed ICE facility in Gilroy. That vote mattered to me. But a resolution alone is not enough if families in this city still wake up afraid that a parent could disappear on the way to work, or that a child could come home to an empty house. I’m asking you to turn that moral statement into real protection. Please join the amicus brief being filed by the County of Monterey with the Public Rights Project (the one supporting the lawsuit by Santa Clara County and the Attorney General filed on June 10). Please put a No-Staging Zone policy on your next agenda so City property is never used to support immigration enforcement operations. And please create a real emergency response plan so Gilroy is ready to protect public safety and support residents if a large-scale raid happens. Gilroy was built by immigrant and farmworker families. They are not outsiders to this city. They are this city. If we say we stand with them, then now is the moment to prove it. Thank you, Morgen, long time resident CAUTION: This email originated from an External Source.
