As one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, pickleball is no longer just a passing trend; it is a vital community asset that delivers immense health, social, and economic benefits to constituents of all ages. Our community currently lacks adequate facilities to meet the skyrocketing demand for this sport. Investing in dedicated pickleball courts would deeply benefit our city’s residents in several key ways: * **Promoting Health and Wellness:** Pickleball is an accessible, low-impact sport that encourages physical activity across generations. It is uniquely suited for seniors looking to stay active, adults seeking a social workout, and youth discovering a new hobby. * **Fostering Social Connection:** By its very nature, pickleball is a highly social, community-oriented game. New courts would serve as a vibrant gathering hub, helping to combat social isolation and strengthen neighborhood bonds. * **Maximizing Space and Efficiency:** From a multi-use and budgetary perspective, pickleball is incredibly efficient. A standard tennis court footprint can easily accommodate up to four pickleball courts, allowing dozens of citizens to stay active simultaneously in a relatively small space. * **Economic and Civic Appeal:** Cities with robust recreational infrastructure attract families and active retirees, while also opening the door for local tournaments that can support nearby businesses. I kindly urge the City Council to review current parks and recreation plans and consider approving the development of these courts in the upcoming budget cycle. Thank you for your time, leadership, and continued dedication to making Gilroy a vibrant, healthy place to live. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this proposal further or connect you with local players who share this vision.
