I am writing in support of finishing our new pickleball courts. Completing the pickleball courts, despite being over budget, is a vital investment in our community’s well-being. Pushing forward, despite over- budget costs, will deliver a premier recreational hub that our residents will utilize for decades to come. Pickleball is far more than a passing trend; it is recognized by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention as a fantastic moderate-intensity cardiovascular activity. These courts represent a direct investment in public health and wellness, offering a low-impact, highly accessible way for seniors, families, and young adults to stay physically active. Beyond physical health, these courts are powerful tools for community building. They serve as vibrant, intergenerational gathering spaces that combat loneliness and foster social connections. Furthermore, a thriving municipal recreation program is a key economic driver. High-quality public facilities attract new residents and families, bring visitors to our city and encourage citizens to spend time and money locally. After approval of the new courts the excitement in our town was palpable. Let’s not let temporary financial hurdles deprive us of a permanent community asset. I urge you to approve the additional funding, complete the pickleball courts, and give Gilroy a space where residents can stay active, connected, and happy.
