I am a Santa Clara County parent and frequent visitor to Gilroy. I want to thank you for unanimously approving the resolution against the proposed new ICE facility near Gilroy and to ask you to build on your resolution by: 1. Joining the amicus brief being filed by the County of Monterey. 2. Agendize a “no-staging zone” policy. 3. Establish an emergency response plan. I will let other commenters speak to the policy dimensions of these next steps, but I want to share that all of these are essential for making Gilroy a safe place for residents but also for visitors and families in the surrounding area, like my own. We need to prioritize the safety of immigrant families, but also to protect the Gilroy economy that depends on workers, customers, and visitors like myself who will be driven away by the presence of an ICE facility in the community. Thank you for voting for these resolutions and for taking a strong leadership role on behalf of our community. Caroline McKusick CAUTION: This email originated from an External Source.
