I am sure that took a lot of courage. I applaud your immediate, unified response. I wanted to urge you to strengthen your stance. I know how tempting it must be to try to distance yourselves from what is happening by saying it is not in our city limits. Unfortunately, for all intents and purposes the ICE center is in Gilroy from a both a media and community perspective. There is no sidestepping this. Your name is on what is happening. I realize that is not fair and I am sorry but you are here now. You were chosen for this moment. With regards to the lawsuit consider this: CAUTION: This email originated from an External Source. Please use proper judgment and caution when opening attachments, clicking links, or responding to this email. 2 If a bully singles you out and you have the massive good fortune to have others come your aid, you need to get on your feet and fight too. Anything less would be absurd. Never have I been more concerned about South County than I am now. Don’t be misled by Morgan Hill, make your own decisions because you are guardians of a much more diverse and agriculturally based city. Innocent blood will be on our hands if this center opens, not to mention the damage it will do to the fiber of our community spirit. ICE has demonstrated a sloppy brand of terror that that won’t be held accountable. It has gone way past immigration enforcement. People are dying. I know many of you are ardent patriots and we know that historically our best patriots were those that loved their country enough to challenge it. Contrary to popular belief it can be done intelligently, respectfully, and from a place of love and honor. Please remember: Passivity implies complicity. History takes note of our in-actions as much as our actions. 3 Please summon your moral and civic courage to not betray the diverse community you represent. Please join the lawsuit and send a stronger message. Thank you, Jenn Van Gundy Lifelong Gilroy resident
