I am a 14-year resident of Gilroy. I care deeply about the future, safety, and character of our community. I am also the Business Manager of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 332. In this role, I represent the hardworking, highly skilled men and women electricians who live right here in our region. Our members stand to benefit immensely from the high-quality jobs generated by local data center construction and upcoming infrastructure projects. These developments provide essential, family-sustaining wages and benefits that keep our local workforce employed close to home. Ever so important in today's world, these large-scale investments open the door to world-class apprenticeship opportunities for our local youth. By supporting these projects, we are creating direct pathways into the skilled trades for the next generation of Gilroy residents. This allows young adults to earn while they learn, securing a stable future without the burden of student debt, and building the very community they grew up in. I fully support responsible development because of the economic vitality it brings to Gilroy. Large-scale projects inject crucial tax dollars into our municipality. This revenue is absolutely vital for funding public safety, maintaining our roads, and supporting the community services that improve the quality of life for every resident. However, as a concerned citizen who has watched our city evolve over the last decade and a half, I also strongly believe that progress must not come at the expense of community trust. There is a pressing need for clear transparency regarding large-load projects. The residents of Gilroy deserve to be fully informed about what is being built in their neighborhoods, the environmental impacts, and the long-term planning involved. We do not have to choose between economic growth and community transparency. By fostering an open dialogue and keeping the public informed, the City Council can successfully champion projects that CAUTION: This email originated from an External Source. Let's continue to develop our beautiful city in a responsible manner that balances growth opportunities, job creation, environmental concerns and public involvement. Thank you for your time, your dedication to our city, and your continued service to the Gilroy community. I look forward to seeing our city grow responsibly and transparently. Sincerely, Peter Seaberg Business Manager, IBEW Local 332 14-Year Gilroy Resident 408.518.2836
