Hello,
I tried to speak over zoom, but when my name was called, I wasn't given the option to unmute
and someone else started to speak. I had my hand raised for the entirety of the comment, and
only lowered it because that is the norm in zoom meetings. I understand that someone then
asked to rectify the situation for me, but that the time had passed. I would like to request, that,
at the very least the following be recorded for the meeting:
That I call for the city council to adopt a firm resolution against the ICE facility.
To adopt a no-staging policy
To provide resources for the most vulnerable in the community.
Strengthen sanctuary protections,
And generally do anything to keep ICE out of Gilroy.
It is important to acknowledge that when ICE violently dehumanizes immigrants and those
who simply look like immigrants on the basis of status, the message to the community is that
some piece of paper determines the humanity of some of Gilroy's residents.
I hope you will help me in adding this to the city's records regarding the ICE facility.
