HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 514 ,'1)' RESOLUTION NO. 514 RESOLUTION APPROVING PROPOSED CHARTER FOR THE CITY OF GILROY, DIRECTING THE FILING OF A CDPY THEREOF, DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO CAUSE THE SAME TO BE PUBLISHED AND CALLING A SPECIAL ELECTION FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUBMITTING THE PROPOSAL FOR ADOPTION. BY THE ELECTORATE. WHEREAS, the Subsection (f) of Section 8 of Article XI of the Constitution of the State of California authorized the legislative body of a city, on its own motion, to frame, or cause to be framed, a proposed Charter for the government of any such city, and to submit a proposal for the adoption thereof to the electors of said city, and WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Gilroy, on its own motion, has caused a proposed charter for the government of the city of Gilroy tp be framed pursuant to the aforesaid provision of the Constitution of the State of California, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Common Council of the City of Gilroy, and it is hereby ordered, as follows: 1. That the said proposed Charter fe and the same is hereby approved by the Common Council of th~ City of Gilroy, and a copy thereof shall be filed forthwith in the office of the City Clerk of the City of Gilroy. 2. That the proposed Charter for the government of the City of Gilroy be submitted to the electors of said city for their approval or rejection at a special municipal election to be held therein on Tuesday, the 18th day of August, 1959, said proposed Charter being as follows: to-wit: .,j-; L/ 3. That the City Clerk be, and he is hereby directed to cause said proposed Charter to be published once not less than forty (40) and not more than sixty (60) days prior to the date of the special municipal election herein provided for in The Gilroy Evening Dispatch, and in each edition thereof during the day of publication, said newspaper being a newspaper of general circulation printed and published in said City of Gilroy. 4. That the City Clerk be, and he is hereby directed to cause a notice to qualified electors of the City of Gilroy that copies of the proposed Charter may be had upon application therefor at the office of the City Clerk of said city in the City Hall in the City of Gilroy, California, to be published in The Gilroy Evening Dispatch, a newspaper of general circulation, on the day said Charter ,is published, and in each edition of said newspaper thereafter until the day fixed for the election. . , U The foregoing resolution was introduced at a regular meeting of the Common Council of the City of Gilroy held on the 15th day of June, by Common Councilman Wentworth , who moved its adoption, which motion being duly seconded by Common Councilman J 0 rd a n , was upon roll call duly carried and the resolution adopted by the following vote: NOES: councilmen:Pate,Rush,Petersen,Wentworth, , Gallo, and Jordan Councilmen: None AYES: ABSENT: Councilmen: None APPROVED: ~~~/ " Mayor ATTEST: /M(i~ City Clerk I, G.
