HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 522 RESOLUTION NO. 522 RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY CANVASSING THE RESULTS OR RETURNS OF SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD AUGUST 18t 1959, UPON THE QUESTION WHETHER THE CITY OF GILROY SHOULD ADOPT A PROPOSED FREE HOLDERS CHARTER. WHEREAS: on August 181 1959; a Special Election was held in the City of Gilroy to determine whether a proposed charter should be adopted by the said city of Gilroy for the said city; and; WHEREAS 1 the law requires that a canvass be made of the returns of said special election by the Common Council of said City and that the results of said election be entered in the minutes of the Common Council and that a resolution be adopted by the said Common Council declaring the results of the canvass;and1 WHEREAS: the said Common Council has duly canvassed the returns of said election in accordance with law at this, an adjourned meeting of the said Common Councilg including the absentee votes; and found and ascertained that the total number of votes excluding absentee votes cast at said election was 737; that the number of votes cast at Precinct "A" was 222; that the number of votes cast at Precinct "B" was 237; that the number of votes cast at Precinct "c" was 155; and that the number of votes cast at Precinct "D" was 123; andg WHEREAS; the following measure was voted upon at said special election: "Shall the proposed City Charter of the City of Gilroy which was filed in the office of the City Clerk of the City of Gilroy on the 15th day of June; 19591 be ratified and adopted?" That the City of Gilroy was divided into four (4) election pre- cincts and that the number of votes cast in each precinct for and against said measure was as follows: D YES NO TOTAL 195 27 222 212 25 237 138 17 155 104 19 123 -- 649 88 737 - 1 PRECINCT A B C /!:<~. ..J... ~J That all absentee voters' ballots have been duly received and canvassed in the time and manner required by lawt and the results of same is as follows: Number of Absentee Ballots 2 Number of Votes 'Yesn 2 Number of Votes INon o Total number of votes 2 That more than a majority of all the votes cast at said special election were in favor of said measure and that said measure has been adopted by the said city of Gilroy.
