RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY COMMENDING
AND THANKING THE SPECIAL CITIZENS COMMITTEE APPOINTED TO ASSIST
THE COMMON COUNCIL IN FRAMING A FREE-HOLDERS CHARTER FOR THE CITY
OF GILROY 0
WHEREASz the Common Council of the City of Gilroy did here-
tofore resolve and determine to propose the adoption of a Free-Holders
Charter to be framed by the said Common Council and to submit the
same to the qualified electors of the City of Gilroy at an election
to be called for that purpose; and,
WHEREASm the said Common Council did proceed to cause the
said proposed charter to be framed and for the purpose of assisting
it in the preparation of said Charterr it did appoint a Committee
composed of fifteen citizens of the City of GilroYr who were to con-
fer with the said Councilt recommend and help in the preparation of
the Charter; and~
WHEREAS~ the said Committee did organize itself by the appoint-
ment of offic8rs, did select expert municipal charter counsel to aid
it in i-ts work:- and held numerous meetings/, as a result of \'michl" a
Charter was developed~ considered by~ and approved by resolution of
the Common Council of the City of Gilroy... and thereafter submitted
to the electors of said City for their adoption and was approved by
the voters at said election by an overwhelming vote; andz
WHEREAS, the adoption of a new charter by the people of the
City of Gilroy is an outstanding event in the history of said city~
since it will~ if approved by the Legislature of the State of Californiar
take the place of the present charter which has governed the City
since the year 1870 when the city was first organized,t and there
should be a record of the work and activity of the aforesaid Citizens
Committee in the preparation of the said Charterlt and the people of
the City of Gilroy are indebted to the said Con~ittee for the said
services rendered by ito
NOW, THEREFORE//, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF GILROY, that it does coamend the said Citizens Coamittee for

its splendid work in its preparation of said Charterz and on behalf
of the people of the city of Gilroy~ does extend the said Committee
its thanks and appreciation for said services so well renderedo
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVEDr that a copy of this Resolution be
delivered to each of the members of the aforesaid Committeeo
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 21st day of Septembert 1959z by the
following votes:
