RESOLUTION NO. 739
A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY REQUESTING
THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY COMMISSION TO APPROVE THE RE-ROUTING
OF ROUTE 32 IN GILROY IN SUCH A MANNER AS TO PERMIT A DIRECT
CONNECTION WITH SEVENTH STREET AT ROUTE 2
WHEREAS, Resolution 731 of the Council of the City of Gilroy has been
presented requesting the State Highway Commission to re-route Route 32 over
Tenth Street when future Sign Route 101 Freeway is constructed, and
WHEREAS, if this request is granted, that portion of present Route 32
between future Sign Route 101 and existing Route 2 (Monterey Street) will
then become a part of the City's street system, and
WHEREAS, the City of Gilroy has only three direct east, west cross
town streets and only one of these in the central business district, and
WHEREAS, all other east, west cross town streets are offset at Route
2 (Monterey Street) which impedes the north, south movement of traffic on
Route 2, and
WHEREAS, an additional direct east, west cross town street in the
central business district is now essential for the convenience of the
publ ic and would contribute toward improvement in the orderly movement of
north and south bound traffic on Route 2,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Gilroy hereby requests
that the California Highway Commission permit the re-routing of Route 32,
from Railroad Street over a new crossing of the Southern Pacific right of
way to existing Route 2, in such a manner as to allow a direct connection
with Seventh Street, and in consideration thereof the City will at its own
expense
1. Construct the re-routed portion of Route 32 to standards equal
to that portion to be replaced.
2. Relocate the existing traffic signals at the new connection with
Route 2.
3. Accept for maintenance the replaced portion of Route 32.
