RESOLUTION NO. 88 - 77
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY OF SUPPORT FOR THE SAN FRANCISCO
BAY AREA RIDGE TRAIL
WHEREAS, Santa Clara County is a growing metropolitan county with an
increasing demand for recreational resources; and
WHEREAS, the Bay Area Ridge Trail will provide the opportunity to add an
important recreational resource for the enjoyment of all Santa Clara County
residents; and
WHEREAS, the Bay Area Ridge Trail can provide recreational enj oyment for
people of all ages and physical abilities; and
WHEREAS, the Bay Area Ridge Trail will link Santa Clara County parks with
park and open space lands of other communities, within and outside the County; and
WHEREAS, the Bay Area Ridge Trail is compatible with the County's Regional
Parks, Trails and Scenic Highways Plan, and countywide Trails and Pathways Master
Plan, and is also in accordance with the recommendation of the President's
Commission on Americans Outdoors.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Gilroy City Council supports the
concept of the Bay Area Ridge Trail and supports the efforts of other public
agencies, and private sector institutions that are working to bring this trail into
reali ty;
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Gilroy City Council urges that all
agencies in a position to implement this trail, give the Bay Area Ridge Trail full
consideration in their planning, land development approval, and capital budgeting
processes.
ANE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Gilroy City Council fully supports
the Ridge Trail development program short of the exercise of the power of eminent
domain for the involuntary transfer of trail easements or rights-of-way from
private land owners.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 19th day of December, 1988, by the following vote:
AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: GAGE, HALE, KLOECKER, MUSSALLEM, VALDEZ and
HUGHAN.
NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: None
ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBER:PALMERLEE
