A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY
REQUESTING THE VALLEY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY (VTA)
TO IMPLEMENT LIMITED COMMUNITY BUS SERVICE TO GILROY
GARDENS DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS
WHEREAS, the Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) operates a Community Bus
Service in the City of Gilroy; and
WHEREAS, the Gilroy Gardens family park hires more than 500 youth to work in its
Park and these youths do not own automobiles for transportation making it difficult to travel to
and from their place of work in Gilroy Gardens; and
WHEREAS, promotion of public transportation is serves both an environmental an
educational purpose that reaps significant community benefits; and
WHEREAS, the provision of bus service to Gilroy Gardens will provide an alternative to
individual car trips to drop off employees and serve to help reduce the carbon footprint of
vehicular traffic; and
WHEREAS, the provision of public bus service to Gilroy Gardens in the summer months
is consistent with the goals and objectives of the City and the VTA in regards to mass transit.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF GILROY that it requests that VTA offer limited Community Bus service to Gilroy
Gardens from Gilroy's Downtown Transit Center. The schedule of this community bus should be
investigated by VTA to determine an appropriate schedule based on Gilroy Gardens' park
schedule.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Gilroy hereby
directs the City Administrator to transmit this Resolution to the Valley Transportation Authority.

attached Resolution No. 2012 -17 is an original resolution, or true and correct copy of a city
resolution, duly adopted by the Council of the City of Gilroy at a regular meeting of said Council
