HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 1951/08/231 1) Gilroy,California August 23,1951 This adjourned meeting of the Common Council is called to order by His Honor Mayor George C.Milias. Present:Councilmen George M.Mason,J.H.Wentworth,James B.Thomas, -- Carl W.Pate, Absent:Councilmen David V.St out,Dale D.Daniels. The Mayor states that the purpose of this adjourned meeting is to open and consider beds for the improvement of Sixth Street between Church Street and Princeveslle Street. Four bids are presented and read:George Augusta- :12,940.56; John B.Paroline- `f10,180.84; Granite Construction Company - $10,768.70; Fredrickson & Watson Construction Company - :9,161.40. Motion by Councilman Pate,seconded by Councilman Ilason and carried that the bid of Fredrickson and Watson Construction Company in the amount of $9,161.40 for the improvement of Sixth Street between Church Street and Princevalle Street (Project No.20,M.C.S.) be accepted after approval by the City Attorney and the City Engineer and that all bids be retained until the City Attorney Inspects and approves the low bid. Mr.Gennaro Filice and Mr.Frank Perrelli of the Filice and Perrelli Canning Company are now invited by the Mayor to sit at the Council table to discuss the matter of disposal of cannery waste and the dis- ruption of operation of the city's sewage disposal plant. I11r.Byron Brow n,Building Inspector, is how called by the Mayor to report on his findings at the sewage disposal plant during the period of the past several weeks. ldr.Gennaro Filice is now asked by the Mayor to discuss the cannery's side of the problem with reference to the City's problem at the sewage disposal plant. 14r.Filice states that he and the company officials are greatly distressed over the fact that the city ordered to cannery to discontinue the use of the city garbage,dump to dump solid waste from the cannery;that the company was forced to Durchase twenty acres of land for disposal of solid wastes,as the result of this action by the Council; that if at any time the city needed y$1,000. or X2,000. to assist in operation of the sewer plant or system to call on the company and they would be glad to assist;that the canning company has done all the work they intend to do with reference to alleviating trouble at the sewage disposal plant or in the city sewer system. The Mayor now discusses the city's side of the question stating that the request to dismontinue the use of the city garbage dump came about as the result of a threatened law suit by E.M.Rea,vwner of property adjoining the city sewer farm property;that the city is willing at all times to do any reasonable thing to assist the cannery. The Mayor now instructs the Clerk to contact Mr.R.C.Stockman, engineer in charge of the recent.alteration and additions to the sewage disposal plant, and arrange to have a meeting with the Qouncil at 1 o'clock P.M.,Saturday,August 25,1951.
