CITY COUNCIL

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City Council of the City of Gilroy, on Monday, March 21,
2022, will introduce an ordinance and will consider the adoption of the proposed ordinance on
Monday, April 4, 2022, the title of which is:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GILROY ADDING GILROY
CITY CODE SECTION 10A.15 TO CHAPTER 10A, ENTITLED HOST LIABILITY, TO
CREATE AND ENFORCE A HOST LIABILITY FOR ILLEGAL FIREWORKS AND
ILLEGAL USE OF LEGAL FIREWORKS
SUMMARY OF ORDINANCE:
This ordinance will amend the Gilroy City Code to add a section relating to prohibitions
on the discharge of fireworks to create a host liability and enforcement for the use of illegal
fireworks on the property owners’ property, as well as the illegal use of legal fireworks.
This would place liability for the violations of Chapter 10A pertaining to fireworks on the
property owner, regardless of their personal involvement in discharging the fireworks.
This ordinance will not alleviate the individual responsible personally for igniting illegal
fireworks if caught and cited.
Reading the entire ordinance is necessary to obtain a full understanding of the provisions
of this ordinance. A certified copy of the full text of the proposed ordinance is available
for public review in the Office of the City Clerk at Gilroy City Hall, 7351 Rosanna Street,
