I. CALL TO ORDER

II. SECRETARY'S REPORT: The agenda was posted on February 4, 2021 at
1:50 PM
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Commissioner McCormaick motioned to
approve. Commissioner Saldana seconded. Motion passed 6-0-0.
IV. APPROVAL OF AGENDA – Chair Reynisson motioned to approve the
agenda with an amendment to move the Student Representative’s
comments to the beginning of the meeting agenda (following public
comments). Commissioner Bermudez seconded. Motion passed 6-0-0.
V. INTRODUCTIONS

VII. PUBLIC COMMENT ON ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA – Gilroy Museum
volunteer Phil Laursen spoke about a grant opportunity to fund the erection
of an Ascension Solorsano statue in Gilroy. He discussed why it’s important
and how the ACC can help. No action was taken by the commission.
VIII. NEW BUSINESS

A. Selection of Chair and Vice-Chair of Arts and Culture Commission -
Reynisson nominated herself to be chair. Commissioner Bozzo nominated
Fierro. Bozzo motioned to select Reynisson for chair and Fierro for vice
chair. Saldana seconded. Motion passed 6 -0-0.
B. 2021 Arts and Culture Commission's Selection of Meeting Date for
Annual Presentation to City Council – Reynisson proposed May 17 and
June 21 as the dates to present to Council. Motion made by Reynisson.
Seconded by Bermudez. Motion passed 6-0-0.
C. Arts and Culture Commission Recommendations for the Upcoming
Two-year Budget Cycle – Explained by staff member Henig. No action was
taken. All ideas—which need to be relevant to arts and culture related
matters and submitted on behalf of the whole advisory body--will be
submitted to Council. Item will be discussed more at length at the March
2021 meeting.
IX. OLD BUSINESS - none
X. STAFF REPORTS
A. Discussion Items for the Upcoming Retreat – Items mentioned that will
be discussed at the March retreat will include: Budget feedback (per
Council); expanding public outreach and communication with residents
about city’s arts and cultural opportunities (Bermudez). Also, discussion of
grant opportunities; and offering arts related activity for kids at special
events. Commission will consider forming subcommittees to complete these
tasks.
XI. STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COMMENTS – Student representative
informed commission about the virtual Christopher High School chamber
choir performance, which can be seen on the school’s YouTube page. Due
to shelter in place, there was nothing else to report.
XII. COMMISSION COMMENTS (Arts-Related) – further discussion about
expanding social media outreach related to the arts and culture commission.
