A.Committee’s role in tree preservation process
Interim Planning Manager Tolentino spoke to the City’s efforts of establishing a tree
ordinance, including what trees would be deemed significant for the purposes of
preservation, but that as of now preservation is not within the committee’s area of
authority.
Committee Member Steve Ashford joined the meeting at 4:34 p.m.
Committee Member Ashford asked when the City would be adopting the new tree
policy.
Interim Planning Manager Tolentino stated that an administrative draft is already in
review and should be going to public hearing within the next 6 months.
Committee Member Aulman asked if the 6 months would impact the tree Patty Sweeney
had brought to the Committee’s attention during February’s meeting.
Carol DeSantis spoke for Patty and noted she was unsure how the timeframe would
impact Patty’s request for the tree on her property to be preserved.
Committee Member Aulman spoke to her support of preserving significant trees when
possible but that the Committee would need to wait for the ordinance to better address
and determine their role in the process.
Carol DeSantis asked who with the City is working on the ordinance.
Interim Planning Manager Tolentino stated the Planning division was working on the
ordinance and that specific questions regarding it could be addressed to her.
Chair Echelberry noted that in response to Patty’s request at the last meeting, the
Committee could not take action regarding her tree at this time but would be welcome to
reviewing the item again once the ordinance is in place.
