Wednesday, October 11, 2017 CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Chair Smith at 7:02 p.m. SECRETARY'S REPORT The Agenda for this meeting was posted on October 5, 2017 at 12:50 p.m. Commissioners Present: Rashmi Beman, Michaela Gonzalez, Sumana Reddy, Hugh Smith, Candice Whitney APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion made by Commissioner Beman to approve the minutes of September 13, 2017. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Whitney. Motion passed unanimously. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Motion made by Commissioner Reddy to approve the agenda of October 11, 2017. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Whitney. Motion passed unanimously. None. PRESENTATIONS None. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION None. OLD BUSINESS A. Discussion of Library Commission Work Plan Regarding "Bike Fix -It Station" The bike fix -it station has been installed. The Grand Opening Bike Fest was held on September 30, 2017. NEW BUSINESS A. Report on Status of Garden Area Improvement A meeting with the architect to obtain a timeline on the project is scheduled for next week. The information will then go to the Oversight Committee. County Librarian, Nancy Howe Deputy County Librarian Chris Brown presented the monthly County Librarian report for Nancy Howe. See attached report. City Librarian, Lani Yoshimura Lani was unable to compile her monthly report due to computer issues, and could not access her personal files. She stated that the Bike Fest, held on September 30, 2017, was a big hit. A new full-time Protective Services Officer has been hired, and will begin working on October 23, 2017. The Library is getting ready for Day of the Dead, and is preparing to decorate an altar that will be downstairs. The Library participated in the Gavilan Health Fair at the Student Union, where over 700 people attended. The Library will also participate in the Business Expo at Gilroy Gardens in November, and also in the Downtown Christmas Parade in December. Commissioner Beman asked if anyone has used the Kanopy program. Commissioners Smith and Reddy both agreed that it is very user-friendly. STAFF COMMENTS Commissioners were reminded to log into City -issued email accounts if they had not already done so. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS Report on the Status of the Garden Area Improvement will remain on the agenda. ADJOURNMENT Chair Smith adjourned the meeting at 7:32 p.m. FUTURE MEETINGS The next regular meeting of the Gilroy Library Commission will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilroy Library Meeting Room, 350 W. 6th Street, Gilroy, CA.
