party to or interested in the above entitled
matter.

INTRODUCTION AND
ADOPTION OF AN ORDINANCE
BY THE GILROY CRY COUNCIL
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN
that the City Council of the City
of Gilroy, on the15th day of
November, 2021 will introduce
an ordinance and hold a public
hearing before the possible
adoption of the ordinance on the
6th day of December, 2021, the
title of which Is:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GILROY AMENDING GILROY
CITY CODE CHAPTER 12
TO ADD A NEW ARTICLE
VI, ENTITLED MANDATORY
ORGANIC WASTE DISPOSAL
REDUCTION, TO CHAPTER
12 OFTHE GILROY CITY
CODE TO IMPLEMENTTHE
REQUIREMENTS OF SB 1383"
SUMMARY OF ORDINANCE:
This ordinance, required to be
adopted by state law, will amend
the Gilroy City Code regarding
mandatory organic waste disposal
to establish policies requiring the
diversion of organic waste to be
recycled, and requirements for
an edible food recovery program
to be implemented. The required
ordinance also establishes
requirements for residents,
businesses and institutions that
meet certain conditions to comply
with diversion goals and reporting,
which the City is required to
enforce per the Stateof California.
The Ordinance contains language
regarding the enforcement and
penalties possible under law and
provides an educational period
through 2023. Reading of the
entire ordinance is necessary
to obtain afull understanding of
the provisions of this ordinance.
