Persons wishing to address the Commission are requested, but not required, to complete a Speaker’s Card located at the entrances. Completion of this speaker’s card is voluntary. All persons may attend this meeting and speak, regardless if a card is completed or not. Speaker’s slips should be submitted to the Secretary BEFORE this portion of the meeting begins. Anyone wishing to address the Commission on any other item on this AGENDA is requested, but not required, to fill out a speaker’s slip as well and submit it to the Secretary BEFORE the Commission takes action on the item. Background Our moonshot vision is to empower the next generation to solve problems affecting the progress of societies around the world in next 100 years. Currently fifteen bay area high schools have enrolled into our programs where teenagers learn about 21 Major Global Issues which are burden to the next generations. We perform community services and offer thousands of dollars worth scholarship under our program. Refer to website NGN.ORG 9.A Packet Pg. 8 YOUTH COMMISSION STAFF REPORT Agenda Item Title: Follow-up Regarding Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office Meeting Date: March 11, 2019 Submitted By: Vince Bautista Prepared By: Vince Bautista Recommendation: Receive and comment on issues affecting youth in Gilroy. Background Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Adam J. Flores is the Community Prosecutor for South County and Gilroy, and he is focusing efforts on preventing juvenile crime and improving public safety. He is interested in hearing what the Commission believes are some of the issues affecting the youth in our community and present at the February 11th meeting to introduce myself to the Commission. He is now attending the March 11th meeting as a follow up, to hear what issues the Commission believes are affecting the youth in our community. 10.A Packet Pg. 9 YOUTH COMMISSION STAFF REPORT Agenda Item Title: Provide Budget Input for Commission Related Items for Upcoming Budget Cycle Meeting Date: March 11, 2019 Submitted By: Vince Bautista Prepared By: Vince Bautista Recommendation: Receive and comment on 2020 and 2021 fiscal year process. Background Commissioners have been asked to provide recommendations for City Council to consider for the upcoming two-year budget cycle. City staff are in the initial phases of budget development for Fiscal Years (FY) 2019-20 and 2020-21. The City Council asked staff during the 2017 budget process to seek input of commissions in the development of future budgets. Staff is requesting budget requests from commissions early in the process to receive input on what the City’s commissions would like to see funded in the upcoming budget cycle. Some requests may be included by staff into the staff recommended budget, but all comments will be compiled and Council will see all requests in the staff report and potentially the budge t book itself. Each commission is requested to identify what they desire to be funded, and an estimate of the cost to accomplish the request. Requests should link to one or more of the following: o Any commission/committee work plan that has been establishe d; o Any master plan that the commission/committee works under; or o Any Council Strategic Plan goal 10.B Packet Pg. 10 Staff will return at the next meeting to receive the comments and requests for budget appropriations. Comments and request should be issued by the Commission collectively, not each individual member.
