Dear Mayor Bozzo and City Council Members,
I look forward to hearing more about the transition to district elections. I am writing in
support of the proposed district map, JH05 (289301), and JH07 (290309) as the second
choice. After reviewing the maps, I strongly believe that both accurately reflect the diverse
communities of interest within our city, and that adopting this map would serve the best
interests of all Gilroy residents.
Gilroy is a city rich in diversity, and it is essential that its districts are drawn in a way that
ensures representation for all segments of our community. The JH05 and JH07 maps
thoughtfully consider the various neighborhoods and socio-economic factors that shape the
lives of residents. It creates districts that are not only geographically cohesive but also reflect
common concerns, needs, and interests within each area. This will ensure that each district is
represented by someone who understands the unique challenges and opportunities of that
specific community.
One of the key benefits of district elections is that they provide more localized and focused
representation. By adopting JH05 (preferred or JH07), residents in each district will have a
direct and accessible voice in city governance, making it more likely that their concerns will
be addressed in a meaningful way. The maps' design also promotes fair and equitable
representation, ensuring that all neighborhoods are given the opportunity to elect a
representative who is attuned to their specific needs.
In conclusion, I fully support the adoption of district map JH05 (or JH07 as a second choice)
for Gilroy’s transition to district elections. Each map reflects our city's diverse communities,
promotes fair representation, and helps ensure that the voices of all residents are heard and
valued. I urge you to adopt one of the two maps and take this important step toward a more
inclusive and effective local government.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Armando Benavides
