Dear Mayor Bozzo and City Council Members,
I am writing to express my support for neighborhoods and communities at the streetlevel, and I am excited about Gilroy's transition to district elections. After reviewingthe proposed district maps, I strongly endorse map JH05 (289301) as my first choice, with JH07 (290309) as a close second. Both maps accurately reflect the diversecommunities of interest within our city and would serve the best interests of all Gilroyresidents.
Gilroy is a city rich in diversity, and it is vital that its districts are drawn to ensure fair
representation for all segments of our community. The JH05 and JH07 mapsthoughtfully account for the unique characteristics of our neighborhoods, includingsocio-economic factors that influence residents' lives. These maps create districts thatare geographically cohesive while also reflecting shared concerns, needs, andinterests within each area. This approach will help ensure that each district isrepresented by someone who truly understands the specific challenges andopportunities faced by their community.
One of the key advantages of district elections is the opportunity for more localizedand focused representation. By adopting map JH05 (or JH07), residents in eachdistrict will have a direct and accessible voice in city governance, increasing thelikelihood that their concerns will be addressed effectively. The design of these mapsalso promotes fair and equitable representation, giving all neighborhoods a chance toelect leaders who are attuned to their specific needs.
In conclusion, I fully support the adoption of district map JH05 (with JH07 as the
second choice) for Gilroy's transition to district elections. These maps reflect our city'sdiversity, promote fair representation, and ensure that the voices of all residents areheard and valued. I urge you to adopt one of these two maps to take an importantstep toward a more inclusive and effective local government.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Russell Blalack
