Subject:EXTERNAL - Food truck ban
Date:Thursday, May 22, 2025 4:10:00 PM
Hello,
I am writing to express my disappointment with the food truck ban in
downtown Gilroy. The food trucks bring people downtown, like my family.
We enjoy driving through downtown on weekends to see a variety of
food trucks to choose from. We often stop and have a beer at one of
our lovely breweries and get food from the trucks. Our favorite is The Pupusa Lady. The
food trucks offer affordable options for our family to enjoy.
The food trucks bring people downtown. For the people who come down to
the breweries or taprooms, it helps their business by offering food options.
The restaurants close long before The Bartenders Union closes, offering food
to those who are drinking.
We have never witnessed a shortage of parking. The food trucks have not
taken parking from customers. We always find a spot. According to a report
we heard about downtown parking, the food trucks do not impact the
availability of parking.
Moving the food trucks to the disappointing "Gourmet
Alley" (what a mess) would diminish their visibility, leaving people who come down for the
food trucks unable to find them.
An option could be in the parking lot on 5th Street.
As a long-time Gilroy resident and a voter, I urge you to put this as an agenda item to bring
back the food trucks in time for summer and long before this decision kills off any of our hard-
working small businesses and drives the foot traffic out of downtown.
Best,
Terri
